It is with deep regret that the Kentucky Stallions have decided to cease football operations.
Injuries and a lack of commitment hit the Stallions hard this past season, but no where was there effect felt more than at the QB position. "We went thru 7 QB's in five games," said head Coach Mike Metzger. "You can't win many ball games with that kind of non-producition."
Even so, it looked as though the Stallions were going to find a way to pull things together when veteran QB Antonio Early joined the team and spurred them on to a second half surge against the NKY BUlldogs in an attempt to win the game. But then disaster struck on the last play of the game when Early was injured on a freak accident, tearing his achilles tendon.
"It's hard to believe things have gotten to this point, said owner Homer Reeves. "Our players, and fans deserve better than this. It's nobodies fault, sometimes things just happen."
With the loss to the bulldogs, the Stallions suffered from a large number of defections and discontent, as they began preparing to face the National Champion Ohio Eagles. It was then that the Stallions Board of Directors stepped in and decided to call it quits.
"The Stallions play in one of the most competitve leagues in the country. The National championship game has had representation from the HFL league winner for the last 6 years. We just weren't fielding a competitive any longer and didn't see any sunshine on the horizon.," said an anonymous BOD member.
With the move many Stallion players where able to sign with other squads prior to the league signing deadline, which was a huge motivating factor of the board.
" I wish all the members of the herd luck wherever they land," said coach Mark Scott. "It's been a helluva ride."
Scott will be coaching with the local arena team Northern Ky Monsters this season..

In a game that featured the Blue division leaders of the HFL South Conference, the Stallions pulled out all the stops and came away victorious. "It was a crazy night, but I was confident we would pull out the win," said coach Mike Metzger. Kentucky's high powered offense jumped out to a 20-7 lead early in the first quarter, but was unable to score after that.
The second half saw the Stallions slowly let the Warriors chip away at their cushion to make 20-13 on a failed two-point attempt, before scoring a potential tying TD in the 4th.
It was then that the Stallions special teams unit, which had been uncharacteristically silent throughout the evening finally chimed in, blocking the PAT and preserving the 20-19 advantage.
On the ensuing drive, the Stallions chewed up clock and methodically moved the ball down the field to the 11 yard line before turning the ball over on downs and forcing the Warriors to try and go 90 yards in under two minutes. 4 plays later the Warriors turned the ball over on down themselves, and the Kentucky ran out the clock in a victory formation.
"This has been a special day, not only for our program, but for me personally," said Metzger, who was celebrating his 11th wedding anniversary.
With the win, the Stallions claim first place in the division, with two games left.

Saturday night, the Kentucky Stallions played host to the 2009 AA National Champion Mid-Ohio Jets at Dixie Heights High Schools Rice Mount-Joy stadium. The route started early when Jerrell Owes took the opening kickoff 82 yards for a Stallion touchdown. From there, Stallion QB TJ Brown and company put on an offensive clinic for most of the first half, throwing 17 for 23, 3 TD's and 198 yards.
(Recieving TD's: Danny Bohrer 2,Charles Johnson 1)
The Jets, led by last years league MVP John Abner, mounted a comeback late in the fourth quarter, but the Stallion defense held strong and Mid-Ohio turned the ball over on downs with a little under a minute to play.
"This was a huge win for our organization tonight," owner Homer Reeves said after the final whistle sounded. "We've finally done what every team in the country has been hoping to do during the regular season for the past five years. Give the Jets a loss."
Mid-Ohio is considered by many as the finest minor league football organization in the Midwest, and have gone to the National Championship game the last three years straight.
"I wish I could savor this moment longer," said Stallions head coach Mike Metzger, "but next week we have the Midwest Panthers, and they have the potential to be equally tough."
In an added bonus, the Division leading Ohio Valley Warriors fell to the KY\OH Xtreme 10-7, putting the Stallions in a tie for the division race.
